Abstract 

      This book is an aesthetic theory book whose object of study is ancient Chinese aesthetic culture. Guided by dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the authors synthesize multi--subjects such as anthropology, culturology, history, archaeology, ethnology, folklore, religion, mythology, art, psychology, etc, and use varied methods such as systematology, information theory, cybernetics, psychoanalysis, archetypal criticism and hermeneutics to analyze problems of Chinese aesthetic culture. This book includes fourteen papers as follows: Three historical periods of Chinese primitive art, Aesthetic features of ancient Chinese myths, Aesthetic features of ancient Chinese jade carvings, Motivation of the consciousness  of life in ancient Chinese paintings, Ferocious beauty and harmonious beauty of  Tao--tiehs on bronze ware of the Shang  &  Zhou dynasties, Cultural connotation and artistic characteristics of ancient Chinese bronze drums, Aesthetic connotation and artis! tic characteristics of Chinese paintings of the Han dynasty, Aesthetic motivation of Chinese Buddhist sculptures, Modern tendency of Shitao's aesthetic thought of painting, Taoist life philosophy in "The  Story of Stone",  Effects of ancient Chinese aesthetic culture on Japan's aesthetic culture in the Rope  Patterns  Age,  Aesthetic similarity between architecture and music, Aesthetic connotation and essential features of Chinese popular music, and Aesthetic essence of art. This book has three features. First, these papers have clear-cut views and attempt to make innovations in theory.  Second, this book focuses on macroscopic understanding and aims to explore cultural connotation of ancient Chinese art. Finally, it pays attention to positive study and its view is based on sufficient grounds. Most of these papers are theses for Master's degrees and are of fairly high academic standard.
